Pure natural spring water - high in silica
Kaiwaka Springs New Zealand mineral water is extracted directly from a pristine aquifer in “Kaiwaka”, deep beneath the untouched Mt Pukekaroro Reserve in the far North of New Zealand. The surrounding countryside is covered by virgin forest, ensuring a 100% pure and natural environment.
The water originates in Antarctica, it is swept off untouched ice plains by powerful polar winds and passes over the Southern Ocean to New Zealand.
It falls as rain over the high ground of the Northland province, and flows through mineral rich channels into underground streams. This process is what makes Kaiwaka Springs New Zealand mineral water unique and so beneficial, essential minerals such as Calcium, Magnesium and Potassium are all present in the water.
mg/L Silica content in our water
Kaiwaka Springs water contains approximately 57 mg/l of Silica, sufficient for the bodies daily needs with 750mls water. Scroll down to read more about Silica.

World class bottling facility located in Kaiwaka, New Zealand
The extraction and bottling of natural mineral water is a complex process. Because mineral water is a naturally occurring source, constant monitoring and purification is required for every drop that we bottle. Kaiwaka Springs quality control procedures are controlled to Japan, New Zealand and international health standards.
The water is extracted directly from the underground aquifers before it reaches daylight. The pipes and system have been installed in such a way that the environment is not affected. furthermore, the extraction process is approved and monitored by local government authorities.
Once the water reaches the plant it goes through a purification process to ensure that it is 100% safe to drink, while still preserving the mineral content and original taste of the water. Surprisingly the process of bottling mineral water is more complex than almost every other bottled beverage!!
The process in general is described below. For new importers Kaiwaka Springs provides a complete process description (written and visual) and all documentation required by authorities.
Spring Water Collection & Treatment
Source Springwater is collected directly from the springhead & piped via alkythene pipe for a distance of 75 metres to the bottling facility.
Source Springwater is pre treated using a series of filters which remove any heavy solids. Pre treated water is stored in 2 x 20,000 litre holding tanks.
Water Treatment – Sterilisation
Pre treated Source springwater captured in holding tanks is sterilised using a combination of ozonation and UV treatment.
Water Treatment – Filtration
Filtration is via a four stage filtering process
5 micron filter set
1 micron filter set
0.22 micron filter set
Processed springwater is then further filtered to .22 micron before stainless steel holding tanks are full in preparation for bottling.
Hermetically sealed room containing rinsing, filling & capping equipment, these functions are conducted an a totally sterile environment.
The Kaiwaka Springs bottling facility is located at source in Kaiwaka, a small township approximately 200km north of Auckland. New and existing trade customers are welcome to visit the facility at any time for a guided tour through the production process.
The facility has the following attributes;
– Fully accredited to international standards (SGS, ISO, NZFSA)
– On site bottle blowing plant, lowering costs and reliance on third party suppliers
– GMP registered laboratory for added value production & testing
– Carbonation & still water production capability
– Production lines for a full range of PET, glass and boxed water products
The facility employs a full time team of professional & trained staff. The production management process extends to international offices in Tokyo with the capability to supply large retail accounts in the Asia Pacific region to the required QA standard.
Kaiwaka Springs is a world leader in global bulk water transportation and process management systems
Kaiwaka Springs has supplied its water for export in a bulk flexitank to Japan. Through this experience we have an intimate understanding of the technical, logistical and financial aspects of shipping water in bulk for the purpose of bottling in offshore markets.
Quality mineral water is in high demand, and it notably improves the taste, appeal and marketability of a range of products that require water. By shipping in bulk the cost of imported mineral water can be reduced, providing more competitive margins for producers and distributors.
The composition of tea, spirits and other beverages all rely on water as a base ingredient. Kaiwaka Springs has validated the significant difference our water makes with leading bourbon, tea and sports drink manufacturers. Of note is the award winning ‘Matakana Moonshine’ range of spirits using Kaiwaka Springs water which won bronze & silver at the 2013 world spirits competition held in San Francisco.
For regions where drinking water is becoming an issue, the import of bulk mineral water is an attractive alternative to desalinization or other forms of purification.
A bulk water venture is a significant undertaking which needs specialized infrastructure and major financing. We strongly recommend a thorough appraisal of associated costs, regulatory limitations and required marketing of the final product before pursuing a project of this nature.
